My latest article is a short and sweet one that corrects a popular misconception: That the poor tend to be stuck in poverty. In reality, the vast majority of the poor, whether your sample starts in 2007, 2009, 2011, or 2013, were out of poverty by 2018!
The chart above even overstates how bad the problem is. Why? Because it shows people entering and existing poverty. If we just look at people continuously in poverty, then the picture is even better: the number stuck in poverty is very low!
And perhaps even more importantly, since the Great Society reforms took place, poverty—defined consistently and in absolute terms—has practically disappeared!
